In our update to the community this week, we want to introduce our Connecting from a Distance video series that showcases Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) educators who have adjusted their typical in-person classes to a distance learning setting.

Over the past few months, we have seen our students and staff adjust from face-to-face classroom learning environments to the current reality of distance learning. With so many unique and varied teaching styles, we thought we would take the opportunity to explore what distance learning looks like through the eyes of educators and students throughout our board.

This week, we hear from Lisa Shantz, the music teacher at Suddaby Public School, as we learn more about how her music classes have adapted to the new distance learning environment. Using a combination of online tools and personal techniques, Shantz creates a familiar classroom environment for her students while maintaining the strong relationships she has built over the school year.

Watch how Shantz finds a way to ensure her students aren’t missing out entirely on the face-to-face connection in their learning.
