June 2026 – Thank you PC Charity – PANCAKES for Grand View PS!
Grand View Public School was treated to PANCAKES on June 16. Thanks to our partnership with President’s Choice Children’s Charity, the entire school enjoyed pancakes, syrup, blueberries, strawberries and yogurt! Javid from No Frills, Cambridge arrived bright and early with a food delivery and the President’s Choice volunteers began cooking at 7:30am. The team was able to serve all our staff and students. Our students loved the breakfast and opportunity to dine together in the library.
Guri in SK commented, “I liked the toppings because they are so delicious.”
Owen in grade 1 “liked the pancakes because they had lots of maple syrup. Pancakes are awesome!”
Ashton, in grade 3, celebrated, “This is the best day of my life.”
James in grade 5 said, “Nothing beats a good old strawberry [on a pancake]”
Emma in grade 6 was grateful for the President’s Choice volunteers, “They gave me really delicious pancakes and I got to eat with my friends.”
May 2026 – Jumping for Heart Health
A focus we have in May is around Jump Rope for Heart and staying heart healthy by getting active. Our school wide Jump event is on Friday, May 8, and we are collecting donations for this important cause.

2025/2026 – Let’s Skate
Last winter, Grand View Public School had the idea to start a skating program!
The community came together to donate skates, helmets and sharpen skates.
Our goal was to teach each and every student from JK-6 to skate!
A special thanks to Mr. Quinney, our physical education teacher, and all the staff for helping our school to be ready to get on the ice.
This is our second year of skating and each class has had multiple ice times to sharpen their skills!
We are grateful for all the parent volunteers and staff at the Preston Arena for the opportunity.
We were lucky to have Director Scott Miller join us on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 for some skating fun.

September 2025 – Terry Fox
We are so excited to once again host our annual Terry Fox Run. We are so proud to have continued Terry’s Marathon of Hope for so many years. There is no better way to start the school year and to build our school community and spirit than coming together to honour this remarkable young man and his incredible courage, determination and optimism. Families are welcome to join us by walking/running/rolling, or simply stopping by to cheer on our Hawks. This event will support cancer research while also building incredible school spirit for our students. Let’s all show the great strength and resiliency of our school community with your support of one of our greatest Canadian heroes, Terry Fox.

2023 – Microforest
Grand View will be getting a forest (50 trees) on November 1. Our students will be helping to measure, plant, mulch and water alongside Sustainability Waterloo Region and Nature Nate from our Outdoor Education Team!
2023 – Bring on the Butterflies
Students of Grand View Public School will be learning lessons about ecology and biodiversity as the butterfly garden that they created is in full bloom!
Populated with dozens of milkweeds and a variety of colourful nectar-bearing perennials, is more than just a mere landscaping project, it’s a haven for the endangered monarch butterfly. If you are in the Preston neighbourhood over the summer, come and check it out!
