In October, the Region of Waterloo launched the “We All Belong Here” campaign to unite the community and stand against hate.

Created as part of the Waterloo Region Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and in partnership with local organizations, the campaign aims to support anti-hate initiatives.

As a community partner, the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) played a pivotal role in the campaign by supporting the development of the framework and resources as a member of the Combating Hate Action Team (CHAT). This is a collaborative initiative led by the Region of Waterloo.

On November 7, WRDSB held a mini-launch for staff and students at Forest Heights Collegiate Institute. It was an opportunity to learn about the campaign and educate students on the resources available to them when identifying and reporting hate.

“This event represents an opportunity for the WRDSB to support the Region of Waterloo’s campaign as we collaboratively strive to make our community a place where everyone feels welcome, safe and a sense of belonging,” said Scott Miller, Director of Education for the WRDSB. “Across our school board, we work to make our schools places where every student knows they belong, and  have trusted adults supporting  their success.”

WRDSB Commitment to Building a Culture of Human Rights

The WRDSB is committed to meeting its obligation under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Ontario Human Rights Code by providing inclusive, safe and caring schools and workplaces that respect the rights of every individual.

We value respect for all. Through compassion and collaboration, we are working to create learning and working environments that are free from discrimination and harassment.
